Not sure if this is in the right place? I have noticed some ads for unregistered stock on this site, but thought that was not allowed? I have a pure bred but unregistered sow and boar, if I needed to would I be allowed to advertise any weaners here? thanks.

Strictly no - in some ads it's impossible to tell until a subsequent message reveals it. One or two slip past without being spotted but in fairness the Club does allow anyone to advertise on here without charge and it is the only restriction. There are plenty of sites where you can offer unregistered stock such as River Cottage, The Accidental Smallholder, etc.

Having said that, we're delighted for you to keep posting queries and observations in the various categories so hope you won't go away.

Hi,
Just contacted someone who is advertising in a local classified type publication GOS weaners for sale at 9 weeks @ £60. When I rang him up and asked if they were birth notified (which to be honest I would have expected in view of them being advertised as GOS and the price) to be told no they weren't, he'd just put them together! and he doesn't have any paperwork at all!! I suspect they are crosses, and this wouldn't be the first time we have looked at such pigs in the past. How do things stands in respect of these type of advertisements, which could in the least,be classed as misleading, certainly to anyone who is going into pigs for the first time who might no necessarily know the right questions to ask.

Really the only thing to do is to report such people straight to Trading Stds. It sounds harsh but it is the only way to stop it. If the local TSO is reluctant, pester him ot her and ask to speak to their boss if necessary. Again some will accuse me of being over zealous but basically such people are trying to get an advantage from all your hard work in doing the job properly. Why should they sell a desirable product at a premium when it isn't what it says on the label?
