Foot and Mouth Disease
URGENT: A Foot and Mouth outbreak has been confirmed on a farm in Surrey. All movements of farm livestock have been banned. Please make sure you keep fully informed about all developments.
The epidemiological investigation is under way to establish the spread and dangerous contacts. We will update the website as we get any more news.
The BPA have updated the Breeds at Risk Register last week. It covers Berkshire, British Saddleback. Gloucestershire Old Spots, Large Black, Middle White, Oxford Sandy & Black. Tamworth and Welsh. BPA Members are automatically included provided that they have three registered or birth notified females BUT it only works if they have given us data protection permission and they have a correct CPH and Herdmark. They can check that we have the correct data in the members area at www.britishpigs.org.uk.
All members should check their stock. There are fact sheets available on the BPA (click here) and DEFRA websites (click here).
We have set up a new forum for discussion, questions, comments and news sharing - click here.
There is a nationwide ban on movements in place until further notice.
