GOS Pig

Royal Show & Champion of Champions Results

The last Royal Show went ahead in mixed weather yesterday and among the breeds judged on the first day were the GOS. Pig judging was delayed by a few minutes in memory of Mr George Styles who died last week, the saviour of the GOS breed.

There was keen competition for the prizes with the return of Robinson & Wilson after a gap of over 10 years and more regular exhibitors including Malcolm & Su Hicks, Guy Kiddy, Stephen & Mandy Booth, Julian Newth and a new competitor in the breed section, Jimmy Doherty of Jimmy's Farm fame. All were judged by Judith Sims.

The Male Championship was first to be determined and the July Boar, Windmill Rufus 17 from the Hicks', was awarded the prize. The four first prize winners of the female classes came together and the Sow, Foston Ellen 83 from Andrew Robinson & Maggie Wilson was judged to be Female Champion.

The two champions then came head-to-head for the Breed Championship which was awarded to the Sow, Foston Ellen 83. The reserve was the boar, Windmill Rufus 17.

In the afternoon, the Champion of Champions competition was underway under a different judge, Dave Overton. This brought together 8 Champions from leading shows around the country and after careful consideration, the prestigious Elwes Memorial Cup went to the Royal Show Champion, Foston Ellen 83 with the runners-up prize awarded to Judith Sims' Three Counties Show Champion, Winterwood Princess 161.

Sky TV filmed the last Champion of Champions to be held at the Royal Show which should be on your screens sometime in August.
