GOS Pig

Redesigned Website Now Live!!

This is the interim website for the Gloucestershire Old Spots Pig Breeders' Club pending a total redesign which will take place over the coming months with a target launch for September. In the meantime we hope that this site will provide you with the basics including an interactive Forum for everyone with an interest in pigs, espacially GOS.

Gloucestershire Old Spots have seen near record growth in numbers over the last decade or so and whilst we revel in this success, it also brings threats. It was a situation that existed in the early 1920s when the GOS was the most imprtant breed in the country. However, within just a few years numbers crashed because breeders were breeding from totally unsuitable pigs just to meet demand and the breed could have become extinct at almost any time over the next 50 or so years.

The officers of the Club believe that we should do everything possible to prevent a repetition and thus a website worthy of the breed is one of our main aims.

We are also organising a workshop to help new and aspiring breeders and are also repeating our participation in the Gloucestershire Breeds Show & Sale at Cirencester Cattle Market on Sat August 4th - watch this space!
